Barby Smith was a servant of the Lord in the truest sense of the word. For twenty years, in their role as the campus ministry team of Harding University, Barby and her husband Dwight guided the spiritual lives of thousands of young souls. Their impact on Hardings students over two decades is immeasurable by any earthly standard. It is unlikely that any Harding student from 1980 through 2004 reached graduation without his or her life having been touched in some way by these humble and faithful servants of Christ.
In February of 2003, Barby was diagnosed with ovarian cancer, and in August of 2004, Barby left this world for her eternal home with our Lord. It is certain that Barby's departure leaves a big hole in this world, but without a doubt, her legacy of love and service is already helping to fill the void and allow others to continue on.
Barby, we miss you, but we know your spirit awaits us with joy.
